Frequently Asked Questions
What is Peanuts W-Splint ?
Peanuts W-Splint is a reusable emergency splint designed to provide rapid temporary immobilization of injured limbs and joints. It can be manually molded to the patient’s anatomy to help minimize movement, improve comfort, and support patient care from the accident scene through transport, the emergency department, and while awaiting definitive treatment.
What are the key advantage?
Peanuts W-Splint is lightweight, easy to apply, moldable by hand, requires no water or heat, is X-ray compatible, reusable, easy to clean, and suitable for EMS, hospitals, industrial workplaces, schools, cruise ships, offshore platforms, and remote environments.
How is it different from traditional wooden splints?
Traditional wooden splints are rigid and flat, which may not conform well to the patient’s anatomy. Peanuts W-Splint can be molded to better fit the injured limb, providing improved immobilization, enhanced comfort, and reduced unwanted movement.
How does it compare with vacuum splints?
Vacuum splints provide excellent immobilization but are generally more expensive, require more maintenance, and may become unusable if punctured or damaged. Peanuts W-Splint offers a lightweight, durable, and compact alternative that is easy to store and ready for immediate deployment.
Can it be used for children?
Yes. Appropriate splint size and application technique should be selected according to the child’s anatomy. Circulation, skin color, temperature, sensation, and pain should always be reassessed after splint application.
Can it be used for adults?
Yes. Peanuts W-Splint is suitable for adult patients with upper or lower extremity injuries. Different models and techniques, including Dual Splinting, may be selected depending on the injury.
How long can the splint remain in place?
Peanuts W-Splint is intended as a temporary immobilization device while awaiting definitive medical care. Under routine circumstances, it is commonly used for approximately 4–6 hours. When clinically necessary, it may remain in place for up to 24–48 hours under appropriate medical supervision, with regular neurovascular assessment. Padding may be recommended during prolonged application.
Is it X-ray compatible?
Yes. Peanuts W-Splint is designed to remain in place during most standard X-ray examinations, reducing the need for unnecessary splint removal or replacement before imaging.
Does it require water or heat?
Yes. Peanuts W-Splint is designed to remain in place during most standard X-ray examinations, reducing the need for unnecessary splint removal or replacement before imaging.
Can it be used during CT or MRI?
Yes. Peanuts W-Splint is designed to remain in place during most standard X-ray examinations, reducing the need for unnecessary splint removal or replacement before imaging.
Does it require water or heat?
No. Peanuts W-Splint is ready to use immediately without water, heat, or curing time.
How long does application take?
In most situations, application takes approximately 1–2 minutes, depending on the injury and the user’s experience.
Must it be applied by a physician?
No. It may be applied by trained EMS personnel, nurses, first responders, rescue teams, occupational health staff, or other healthcare professionals who have received appropriate training.
What is the Dual Splinting Technique?
Dual Splinting involves using two splints together to increase stability—for example, anterior and posterior splints for upper limbs or medial and lateral splints for lower limbs.
What is the EMS Exchange System?
The EMS Exchange System is a workflow concept in which EMS personnel apply the splint at the scene, while hospitals maintain clean replacement splints that can be exchanged after patient transfer, allowing EMS crews to return to service more quickly.
How can hospitals benefit?
Hospitals may reduce repeated splint replacement, decrease disposable material usage, improve workflow efficiency, facilitate earlier X-ray examination, and maintain continuous immobilization throughout patient care
Is it suitable for industrial workplaces?
Yes. It is well suited for workplace first-aid programs and emergency preparedness, allowing trained personnel to immobilize suspected fractures before transport.
Can it be used on cruise ships or offshore platforms?
Yes. Its lightweight, compact design and rapid application make it particularly suitable for remote environments where evacuation may be delayed.
Is it suitable for schools?
Yes. It is appropriate for school clinics and safety teams, especially in schools with sports and outdoor activities, when used alongside appropriate first-aid training.
Is it reusable?
Yes. It may be reused provided it is not severely contaminated, damaged, or structurally compromised, and has been cleaned according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
How should it be cleaned?
Clean using mild soap and water or according to the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions. Avoid harsh chemicals that may damage the materials.
What models are available?
The main product range includes W621, W515, W412, W621L, and W515L, each designed for different anatomical applications.
What is included in the Basic EMS Set?
The Basic EMS Set typically includes:
– 2 × W621
– 2 × W515
– 1 × W412
plus straps and accessories depending on the selected package.
How much does it cost?
Pricing depends on the model, order quantity, customer type, and destination market. The recommended retail price of the Basic EMS Set in Thailand is THB 2,100.
Is there a warranty?
